Monica Loder’s oil paintings capture a variety of subject matter from landscape to still life.
She loves painting realistically in oils and drawing with graphite. Her main subject matter are still life and landscape. When composing still life, she is interested in a story that can be told, the play of textures in the subject matter and light effects on the objects. Other sources of inspiration are the outdoors, being outside, the water, and ethereal skies. She is fascinated by the effects of light and sublime atmospheres experienced in nature. Monica paints in her studio and outdoors or "en plein air".
Artist’s who have inspired Monica’s work: Caravaggio, Fredrick Church, Thomas Cole, Thomas Moran and Gerome as well as contemporary still life artists Clint Hobart, Julie Beck and Sarah Lamb.
Monica studied painting and drawing at ateliers and workshops in the United States. She received her Master's degree in science from The Ohio State University.
Monica was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She spent the last 10 years living and painting in Hawaii, on the beautiful and inspiring island of Maui. She now resides in the Phoenix, Arizona area
